Finally, HP acquired Palm. Despite its name (Hewlett Packard) was never mentioned in earlier rumors, which HP finally managed to woo Palm. HP agreed to acquire all shares of Palm 5.7 U.S. dollar price per share so that the total acquisition value of 1.2 billion U.S. dollars. Palm sold after suffering continual losses and slow business growth. Previously, many analysts say a number of companies such as Huawei are interested in buying Palm, HTC, and Lenovo. However, recent HTC withdraw and Lenovo as the only potential candidates. Who would have thought, HP finally got it.

The agreement was announced Wednesday and the acquisition process is expected to be completed on July 31, 2010. Palm CEO Jon Robinstein still maintained even though not yet announced what position will be assumed. “The innovative operating system made by Palm provides an ideal platform to develop strategies for HP’s mobility and create a unique experience through the sharing of mobile devices that are connected to each other,” said Todd Bradley, executive vice president of HP‘s Personal Systems Group, in a press release.
HP said the smartphone market is still very large, profitable, and growth is high and companies can integrate between devices and services dominate the market opportunity. HP ambitious presence could help Palm smartphone market leader in the future. Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein himself calls the HP as the perfect partner to accelerate the growth of WebOS, artificial latest Palm smartphone platform.
