Obama said, “We have an obligation to investigate what went wrong… If our laws were broken leading to this death and destruction, my solemn pledge is that we will to bring those responsible to justice on behalf on the victims of the catastrophe of the people of the Gulf region.” Some are concerned this ongoing investigation could hamper BP’s efforts to handle the situation. BP continues to ramp up efforts by housing clean up crews in tent cities and bringing in barges to sleep on.

Pensacola Beach, Florida and Dauphin Island, Alabama
In Florida, officials confirmed an oil sheen Tuesday about nine miles from Pensacola beach, where the summer tourism season was just getting started. Tar balls have begun to wash up on the barrier islands of Mississippi and Alabama. Swimmers found tar balls floating just inches away from them. Dauphin Island, Alabama has issued a swim advisory asking people to stay out of the water because of the presence of oil. WKRG.com News
Will the Gulf Oil Spill Reach Providence, Rhode Island?
Are the beaches and coastline of Rhode Island in danger? According to University of Rhode Island scientist Malcolm Spaulding, R.I. should be fine. Unless the Loop Current could carry the spill around Florida, the state of Rhode Island should be fine he said. Spaulding says “chances are remote that the spill could effect the East Coast.”
